چکیده
MCNAB, W.H. 1993. A topographic index to quantify the effeet of mesoscale landform on site productivity. Can. J, For. Res. 23: 1100-l 107. Landform is related to environmental factors that affect site productivity in mountainous areas. 1 devised a simple index of Iandform attd tested this index as a predictor of site index ín the Blue Ridge physiographic province. ‘fhe landform index is the mean of eight slope gradients from plot center to skyline. A preliminary test indicated that the index was significantly associated with slope position and three classes of landform (ridge, slope, and cove). In a test with data from four locations, site index of yellow-poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera L.) was significantly correlated with landform index for each location (r = 0.45-0.65). Landform index and two other topographic variables together accounted for 3 1 percent of the variation in yellow-poplar site index throughout the Blue Ridge province. Landform index is a conveniently measured site variable that may be useful in various forestty-related applications, including multivariate analysis of the distribution and composition of forest vegetation.

LANDFORM – GIS based generation of topographic attributes for landform classification in Australia
This paper presents LANDFORM, a customized GIS application for semi-automated landform classification based on the definitions of SPEIGHT (1990). A set of commands for GeoMedia was developed for an easy step-by-step generation of topographic attributes for the classification of landform elements. Using the new commands topographic attributes like curvature or elevation percentile were derived f...
متن کاملLandforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data
During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

متن کاملThe Influence of Geomorphological Characteristics of Forest Sites on the Decay Dynamics of Dead Trees in Asalem Forests, Western Hyrcanian Region
Knowledge of the decay trend of dead trees and site factors affecting their functions, plays an important role in the development of conservation management plans in forestry projects. This research was conducted in Asalem beech forests in northern Iran to assess the impact of physiographic features of the site on the process of dead trees decay. A total of 90 sample cuts of dead beech stumps w...
متن کاملAn automated method to extract typical karst landform entities from contour lines on topographic maps
Mapping specific landform entities in the past is mainly achieved by manually examining contour lines on topographic maps. Automated delimitation of specific landform from digital elevation data remains difficult in geomorphologic mapping. This paper presents a method to automatically identify five common surface features of karst landscapes: isolated karst hill or sinkhole, clustered karst hil...
